Gustav Gaudernack (1865-1914) was born in Bohemia (Austria) and studied glassmaking and enamelling in Vienna. He moved to Kristiana, now Oslo, in 1891. He was considered Norway's leading Art Nouveau goldsmith and was employed as a designer at the David Andersen Company from 1892-1910. Gaudernack was also interested in the more technical aspects of enamel production, and became famous for his plique à jour creations. During the World´s Fair in St Louis in 1904, he received the Grand Prix for his work. In 1910, Gustav started his own enamel workshop, which was operated after his death by his widow, Anna, with the participation of his son, Finn.
